About the role

The Waste Processing Technician I will perform various labor duties including receiving, processing, mixing, and loading non hazardous waste materials and maintaining equipment. Duties will include

  • Process inbound material for treatment facility

  • Unloads bulk trucks into mix pit and shredders

  • Scan drums using hand held scanner

  • Compact and load out empty drums

  • Operates processing equipment such as shredders, drum line, tote dumper, tow motor

  • Receive shipments and unload trucks

  • Housekeeping: Maintain a neat and clean working environment

  • May begin to train on how to use heavy equipment i.e. Backhoe, Trackhoe, loader in process area

  • Coordinate last minute or unscheduled deliveries

  • Comply with OSHA Health and Safety Rules

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, preferred
  • Covanta offers GED Works - a fully funded program for employees to achieve their GED.
  • 1+ year of experience

  • Able to pass respirator fit test

  • Must exercise good judgement and problem-solving skills

  • Demonstrate attention to detail and time management

  • Must be able to operate cranes, forklifts, hand trucks, and other power tools

  • Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds

  • Kneeling, crawling, stooping, bending, or twisting for extended periods of time

  • Walking and/or standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Outlook, Word, and Excel

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
