Job Description

Norfolk Southern Corporation is currently seeking a Senior Technology Engineer on its Integration Services team. You will handle a complex, mission-critical computing environment spanning primarily Unix/Linux, Windows, and limited mainframe technologies. Responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of middleware software components; managing integration and communication between various software applications, databases, and systems.

Responsibilities:
  • Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain middleware software components.
  • Monitor middleware systems to ensure optimal performance, troubleshoot issues, proactively identify, resolve bottlenecks or performance problems.
  • Implement and maintain middleware security measures, including access controls, authentication, encryption to protect sensitive data ensuring compliance with organizational policies and industry regulations.
  • Resolve incident service requests, documenting and communicating the root cause.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, system administrators, database administrators, and network engineers to deliver reliable, scalable middleware solutions.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation, including system configurations, installation procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Facilitate best practices sharing and ensuring consistent administration practices.
  • Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with a customer service-oriented focus.
  • Proactively anticipate and resolve problems, while maximizing efficient use of people, tools, and processes.
  • Display excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Apply strong organization and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
Skills Required
  • Middleware engineering administration including installation, configuration, and maintenance of middleware software components (e.g., JBoss, Redhat, IIS)
  • Linux and Windows Systems experience.
  • Middleware concepts, protocols, and technologies, such as HTTP, HTTPS, SOAP, REST, JMS, ESB and API gateways.
  • Scripting skills (e.g., Bash, Python, Powershell).


Skills Desired

  • Red Hat JBoss EAP 6/7 administration.
  • VMWare virtualization of Red Hat Linux experience.
  • Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms and their integration with middleware components.
  • Familiarity with DevSecOps practices and tools.
  • Understanding of database concepts.
  • Knowledge of Electronic Data Interchange systems.

Education
Bachelors degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field preferred.
